Most aged care environments were never designed with neurodivergent residents in mind, including the many older people who have lived their whole lives undiagnosed. Noise, lighting, communication styles and rigid routines can quietly turn everyday care into a source of distress, escalation or withdrawal.
In this session, I’ll walk through the critical questions boards, executives and care leaders should be asking about buildings, routines and care models to make aged care more predictable, humane and neuro-inclusive. Rather than adding more to do, we’ll reframe behaviours as design feedback and use the questions to uncover practical changes that improve comfort, autonomy and dignity for all residents, including those with a formal diagnosis.
We’ll focus on:
The foundational questions to stress-test neuro-inclusivity in your physical environment, daily routines and care practices.
How to build ongoing, resident and family-led feedback loops into everyday practice so that neuro-inclusive care becomes part of continuous improvement.
